Jeffrey Lurie gets emotional over Eagles' Jeremiah Trotter Jr. draft pick

The Philadelphia Eagles' 155th pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft was an emotional one for owner Jeffrey Lurie.

That's because the Eagles traded up to grab Jeremiah Trotter Jr. -- the son of former Birds' star linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr.

Lurie, who has known Trotter Jr. since before he could walk, choked up a bit when they made their move for the Clemson star linebacker.

"Jeremiah, how old were you when I first met you? ... Congrats man. Just really huge congrats. Congrats to your dad and I loved your mother. Congrats, can't wait to see you," Lurie said on the draft call to Trotter Jr. before passing the phone off.

Jeffrey Lurie was emotional in the call to Jeremiah Trotter Jr., whom Lurie has known since Trotter Jr. was a toddler.

Trotter Jr.'s mom, Tommi Trotter, passed away last February following a battle with breast cancer.

It's a full circle and certainly a special moment for the Trotter family, though Trotter Jr. has big shoes to fill.

His dad, who was drafted by the the Eagles in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft made quite a name for himself in Philly. "Axe Man," is what they called him. In four seasons with the Eagles, Trotter Sr. earned four Pro Bowl nods, was named first-team All-Pro in 2000, and was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame.

Trotter Jr. plans to accept the challenge as he will also wear No. 54, just like his dad.
