7 Cowboys players were put on blast by team's 2024 NFL Draft class
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys got themselves one of the best classes out of the 2024 NFL Draft and while that's good news for the team, it also means several players already on the roster were put on blast.

I'm talking about those whose previous roles, or even roster spots, are no sure thing anymore as they'll have to battle for it against the new faces on the team.

Let's look at seven players that are in this situation with the draft in the rearview mirror and the thick of the offseason ahead of us.

OL Chuma Edoga

Edoga is going to have a tough time clinging to a 53-man roster spot after the Cowboys picked three offensive linemen in the 2024 NFL Draft. Edoga, whose best asset is his guard-tackle flexibility, will have a lot to prove as Dallas walks away with two potential starters in Tyler Guyton (LT) and Cooper Beebe (C), with the latter potentially pushing T.J. Bass and Brock Hoffman down in the depth chart.

The addition of mauler Nathan Thomas in Day 3 should also not be overlooked. Paired with Matt Waletzko and other players who have been around for a while, it just feels like Edoga might not be one of the team's 53 when the season starts.

CB C.J. Goodwin (Kind Of)

As I pointed out in my 53-man roster projection, special teams ace C.J. Goodwin has earned a roster spot until proven otherwise. It feels like for at least three years, we've questioned if he'll beat out younger players with special teams skills plus starting upside in their positions.

Every single time, Goodwin proves the world wrong. That doesn't mean he won't face competition, though. Caelen Carson in particular stands out as the long, athletic corner that played special teams four seasons at Wake Forest. I don't think Carson (a roster lock) pushes Goodwin out of the team but that DB room is getting crowded with players who can play for John Fassel. Goodwin's offseason will be fun.

OC Brock Hoffman

This is an obvious one. Had the Cowboys not gotten Cooper Beebe at 73rd overall, Hoffman would've been the clear-cut favorite to start at center after gaining some experience filling in for Tyler Biadasz last season.

Now, it's starting to look like Beebe is the favorite, as the rookie has a high floor at the NFL level despite limited upside (primarily because of sub-32-inch arms). As long as Beebe learns to play center, expect Hoffman to be the projected backup.

TE Peyton Hendershot

Ok, I cheated. Hendershot wasn't put on blast by a draft pick but rather the team's highest-paid undrafted rookie: Brevyn Spann-Ford. The big-sized, nasty blocker needs to get better in catching but if he does that, he earn himself a spot on the team.

With Luke Schoonmaker and John Stephens Jr. (who was going to make the team last year before his injury per the front office) to worry about, Hendershot is going to have to leave no doubt he's worth a roster spot to make it.

CB Nahshon Wright

With Carson being picked in Day 3, that's back to back years the Cowboys have added depth at cornerback late in the NFL Draft after picking Eric Scott Jr. in 2023. Wright has had ups and downs as a backup for Dallas and now he needs to overcome one of two recent draft picks to secure that roster spot.

His spot on the 53-man roster is far from secured as the Cowboys could realistically carry five cornerbacks, especially if they go long at safety, which they could because there's serious talent there.

LB Damone Clark

The Cowboys are too thin at linebacker to think Clark's roster spot is in jeopardy but he could find himself filling a reduced role. Having started in 2023, he has to fend off DeMarvion Overshown in his return from injury and now Marist Liufau is added to the mix. It would be a surprise if Liufau shows he's ready early on in his rookie year but everyone keeps praising his high IQ so be on the lookout for Clark being pushed further down the depth chart.

He'll have a chip on his shoulder this season.

EDGE Viliami Fehoko

This is an obvious one. Fehoko has yet to play a single snap of regular season football and although it was looking like he was closer after Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr. left in free agency, second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland will likely jump him on the depth chart.

Kneeland's traits are exciting and he's got the arm length to be successful early one while he gets better as pass rusher.
