Jeremiah Trotter Jr. says it would be ‘blessing’ to play for Philadelphia Eagles

Former Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. wouldn’t mind following in his father’s footsteps with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ahead of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Trotter Jr. is projected to go within the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. HIs father played with the Eagles and the younger Trotter called it a “blessing” if he were able to play in Philadelphia.

As a team with a need at linebacker, although little history of drafting them early, it could be quite the tandem in 2024.

“He’s told me stories about when he played for the Eagles,” Trotter Jr. said. “He had a great time in that organization. You know the Eagles, they’re a great team, great club and it’d be a blessing to be able to play for them as well. I’m just grateful for the opportunity. I’ll go wherever I go. I’d be happy wherever I land.”

The elder Trotter played at Stephen F. Austin and was drafted in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He played with the team through the 2001 season before a two-year stint with Washington.

Trotter returned to the Eagles in 2004 and helped Philadelphia to Super Bowl XXXIX, but left the team after 2006.

In 2007, he played his lone season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before eventually returning to Philadelphia in 2009 after not playing in 2008.

He finished his NFL career with 908 total tackles, 720 solo tackles, 12.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, nine interceptions, 50 pass deflections and two defensive touchdowns.

If Trotter Jr. ends up in Philadelphia, local fans will surely be excited to see the legacy continue. Currently, the Eagles hold the No. 22, 50 and 53 overall picks in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Over the course of three seasons with Clemson, Trotter Jr. finished with 192 tackles, 113 solo tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, four interceptions, 10 pass deflections, three forced fumble and two defensive touchdowns.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Trotter Jr. was a five-star recruit out of Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 3 overall prospect in the state, the No. 3 linebacker in the class and the No. 32 overall prospect in the class.
