The Saints and veteran offensive lineman James Hurst have agreed to a renegotiated contract. Saints News Network learned earlier in the week that Hurst was reworking his deal, and the new terms of Hurst's deal lowers his base salary from $3 million to $1.21 million.

The cap hit will provide additional savings for New Orleans, as it goes from $6.5 million to $2.971 million. The two void years are still in play or Hurst after this season, which will void if he's on the roster the last day of the 2024 league year. Hurst will receive a $1.5 million roster bonus this season.

Hurst, who has been with the Saints since 2020, turned 31 in December and has appeared in 60 games for New Orleans. He has 51 starts and provides versatility and depth for the offensive line, particularly on the left side. Trevor Penning is not expected to move from the left tackle spot right now, so Hurst could be a big option at left guard with Andrus Peat hitting the market.
